Feng Shui your Bed

How well is your bed supporting your sleep, health and wellbeing? I’m going to give you some feng shui tips and show you some good options if you’re thinking of making a change.

I was recently featured in an article called How to Feng Shui your Bedroom in Good Housekeeping Magazine. It’s really informative and I encourage you to read it for more tips and design ideas…

I love this simple checklist they created. Very handy!

Now, let’s look at some beds which tick all the feng shui boxes: they’re good for health, promote sound sleep and are also stylish.

Here’s what I look for in a bed:

Shape: I love a curved headboard, it feels a little like getting a hug as it gently wraps you. Keep in mind a bedroom should feel warm, even cozy, and never cold and sterile. If you have a very modern bedroom you can still bring in soft elements in the bedding, rug and draperies to promote relaxation and a good night’s sleep.

Material: While I tend to recommend upholstered headboards because they are soft and inviting, you can also create a similar feeling with a wooden headboard in a soft shape, such as a curve. Check out some ideas below.

Space under the bed: Even if it is only a few inches, it’s important to leave room under the bed. This allows the qi energy to flow around you smoothly while you sleep, which is important for health. If you like a low platform bed that’s fine, just look for one that doesn’t sit directly on the floor.

Here are four of my favorites:

The Nook bed by Blu Dot is modern yet soft. I’ve used this bed in two of my designs, and my clients love it.

I like this Anthropologie bed with a curved wooden frame. It even has small integrated side tables, how smart! (I just don’t recommend sleeping under a window, as shown here.)

This transitional style bed from Pottery Barn can work in any décor.

A curved rattan bed from Arhaus creates a tropical luxe vibe.

A bedroom is a uniquely special place where you can fully relax, rest, and rejuvenate. Adding some simple feng shui solutions will make it feel even more special.

PS. Drop me a note if you have a question about your bed, or would like a feng shui design reading.
