Live to 120 Years old

I’m reading a book on how to live to 120 years old. That idea is not as far-fetched as it might seem. Nowadays people routinely live to over 100, and with technological and medical breakthroughs, 120 is really not out of reach. But it’s important that we remain strong in body, mind and spirit in order to make a long life meaningful and enjoyable. Here’s what I’ve learned so far…

3 Keys to Longevity

According to Ilchi Lee’s wonderful book, I’ve Decided to Live 120 Years, there are three keys to living a long, satisfying life (I’m paraphrasing here, you can read his book to get all the details):

1. Life Purpose:  have a clear reason to get up every day, a vision for what your life is about. A purpose is crucial for staying engaged as you age (especially in the years after you retire).

2. Physical Health:  develop a strong body and integrate healthy practices into each day. This goes beyond daily exercise, to a mindset of always being physically active in small, consistent, ways.

3. Strong Mind:  in particular, keep the mind sharp by staying creative. This can take any form, such as writing, drawing, painting, etc. If you don’t feel particularly creative, actively appreciate art, explore architecture, read literature or visit museums. Or if your creativity falls more in the domain of problem solving, such as playing puzzles and games, or repairing things, do that. Whichever pastime you choose, make them a regular part of you life, rather than an occasional activity.

How our home can support a longer life

Being a Feng Shui Designer, I look at how our space can be physically arranged and energetically aligned to help us extend the length and quality of our lives. In part two of this letter, I’ll let you know what I’m doing and suggest you try this as well!

Keep an eye out for my next email…

To a long, happy life,
